Preschool Transportation
This project will provide transportation to and from preschool and Head Start in Cerro Gordo, Hancock and Worth Counties.  To accomplish this task, North Iowa Community Action Organization Head Start will collaborate with West Hancock Community School, Garner-Hayfield Community School, Mason City Community School, Sunbeam Preschool, Sugar Plum Preschool, Discovery Time Preschool, and Voyagers Preschool, and River City Transit Company.
In Cerro Gordo County, Head Start will provide their own transportation in Clear Lake with the bus, driver, and bus aide.  In Mason City, River City Transit will be contracted to provide the bus service.  Two busses will take the morning District preschool children home and bring in the afternoon children with the District hiring the two bus aides.  Parents will work with the District regarding how to deliver their children in the morning or take home in the afternoon.  River City will provide four busses to take the Head Start children home in the afternoon with Head Start providing the four bus aides.  The four preschools will each have 4-5 children provided transportation in the morning to and from preschool with Head Start providing the bus aide.  Head Start will also provide transportation to a limited number of children in the morning based on an application/family need process.
In Hancock County, Head Start will provide the bus.  West Hancock Community School has the driver and bus aide.  They will pick up children from the West Hancock District, Corwith, Kanawha, Klemme and in-town Garner and deliver to Head Start.  This route will be reversed in the fternoon.  West Hancock will also utilize these funds to transport their preschool children at noon.  Garner will provide transportation to children in the rural on the regular bus routes at no cost to this project.  They will use these funds to assist with the transportation of their District preschool children.
In Worth County, Head Start will use these funds to transport as many children as feasible based on location to and from Project Child Care in Manly.  This will include the Head Start and preschool children.
Costs will include the bus, driver and bus aide.
To provide a safe program, a transportation supervisor will oversee the services as a part of her duties including tracking much of the required data.  She will also purchase and provide curriculum on bus safety for teachers and transportation staff to be used with the children and families.
